Its probably best to work out an hourly rate and pay it. Maybe get a cheap rate by letting her know she can have a tip jar or something (donations by the guests).. but I wouldnt offer something that your guests had to pay for...

I know of several people that go in together for all the party stuff. Professional Karaoke Setup (with lights, dj sound system, etc), light/ fog rentals, and the open bar. Couple friends sharing the cost, allows you to get more for your guests, and make it an affair to remember...

We did do a casino night one year for halloween.. Each guest paid 10 bucks, (and got fake casino chips)... we used the money to buy some nice prizes, and at the end of the night, we auctioned off the prizes.. (dvd player, tv, MP3player, gift baskets, etc.) There was about 50 people at the party, and some of the more interesting auctions were for obscure things like the shot glass chess board, etc.. people were drunk enough that stupid stuff sounded fun.

If you are hosting the party, you pay the entertainment. I went to a party with a psychic once, it was great! It's completely worth it.

Hiring entertainment and asking them to collect money for their work from guests means you are less likely to get good entertainment. If you want someone good, you pay upfront. Besides, it's much more fun for everyone if they can sit back and enjoy stuff without the bother of counting out cash for their entertainment.

You should pay, but have a jar with a sign on it that your guests can donate to for use of the psychic. I'm sure people will want to help out but it avoids the awkward situation of asking for money.

If you are paying for the whole party, you should pay for everything, including the psychic. However, if your guests offer to help you with the payment, it is your call to accept it or not.

Why should the guests at a party expect to pay for anything, unless it's a cash bar at a wedding? You pay. I imagine you would pay by the hour--an hour or two should be enough.

Now if you were throwing a carnival instead of a party, the customers would pay.

I think your best bet is to pay. It is entertainment you are providing at your party. It wouldn't be good to make your guests play. Plus, if you were gonna make them pay, and no one did, you'd end up paying still, and no one would have gotten any use from the psychic. Have fun!

I think since its your party you should pay - let your guests really have a good time without having to worry about paying you or someone else.

It would be rude to ask your guests to pay. They are your GUESTS.
