This is probably in the wrong section, but I'd like to know what you guys think. I was interviewed two weeks ago by my first-choice employer and I really enjoyed talking to the boss and I think she enjoyed interviewing me too. However, the HR Manager said they were conducting more interviews that week and would know by the next week (meaning, last week). I sent them a thank you letter after two days by email.
That same week, I was interviewed by my second choice company and today asked when I would be available, because they were narrowing their choice. I told them I'd give an answer this week.
Question: Would it be in order to call first choice employer and ask if I got the job (it's been two weeks after all)? I don't want to seem too aggressive but I need to make a decision about the second-choice company soon.

By all means, please follow-up on the first interviewer.
Please mention about your interview date and the infomation given to you that you will know of the result by (let's say...) September 15 (so that they have an idea as to how much time has elapsed). Also let them know that you received a job offer from another company; that information might speed things up for you.
There is absolutely no need to mention which company is interested in hiring you. If they insist, simply mention that it is a manner of personal courtesy as to why you prefer to keep the name private.
Good luck.

By all means call up the first employer and you can mention that you have an offer from an equally good company. Most HR people don't find it aggressive, rather proactive =) Personally I would rather have my candidate call me up to inform me of a second offer so I would have a back-up if I have intended to offer her the job =)

Yes, its always recommended to follow up your application with your first choice employer after 2-3 weeks have passed since your interview. A good email or a phonecall should do it. Goodluck!

It will be in your personal interest to call your first choice employer about the result of the interviews. They cannot keep you waiting and should keep their word to let you know the result by now. You are just protecting your own interest anyway, you have your choices to make as they do with you.
So go ahead make the call and make your own career decision choice.

I suggest you call the first choice company. They promised to give you an update in the first place so I believe you have all the right to know where you stand that way you can weigh your other options.
Do not worry about coming out as an aggressive applicant, you are not being pushy...you just need to know...

Yes most definately call the first choice employer and ask them if any decision has been made.
What happens is that sometimes they will have a 'short list' and cannot make up their minds on who to employ. By phoning and enquiring you bring your name to the forefront and quite often will get the job there and then. It has happened to me twice so far.

Call them and tell them of your predicament. That they are your first-choice, and that you would not want to make a hasty decision (going to the other company) only to regret your subsequent inability to join them after you commit to the other company.
They will appreciate that.
A previous applicant has done that to me (called me as his first-choice employer) so I decided on the spot to hire her and did not further delay my decision. Because I also did not want to lose her.

I think you are on the right track. Sometimes your timeframe may not be the same as the company you seek however; they should know that if they are considering you, that you have other offers and they need to move more quickly if they want you.
Good luck in whatever you choose.;-)
