If you have a Real Aid charity shop in your area they do the Christmas Shoe Boxes. Know what you mean about seeing these kids sitting holding the boxes - saw a tv prog about it last year. If you want to do something other than just at Christmas there are schools in Malawi that need pencils, crayons etc., Schools in our area collect from the general public as well as their students. 1 pencil between 8 kids! So they need all the help they can get. As for the cynical comments about aid not getting to those who need it......this isn't confined to Third World countries I'm afraid, there have been people in this country who help out voluntarily at charity shops who help themselves to stuff and don't pay for it! Despite these displays of dishonesty we should all try to help those in need. If your priorities lie with your own then there are still people trying to rebuild their lives after the floods during the summer. If everyone stopped helping others due to politics etc., the world would be a nastier place than it already is (for some).

I started at the begining of the year, buying bits and pieces and doing knitting.
It is wonderful to see the childrens faces as the boxes are given out.
Some of them just hold onto the boxes, I guess
holding them brings a kind of comfort.
The church in my communitie, sends just over a hundred. It is a privilege to help.

Our Church has a group effort to ship things to them so I do contribute,it is a good cause,...regardless of the risks involved in them receiving it with complications in their Country, the majority of it does reach the intended children..Yes I have participated in the efforts first hand.=)

this variety of charm is administered in numerous international locations inclusive of the u . s . and uk (to boot as eire). in spite of the very undeniable fact that most of the recipients are from Christian international locations, most of the youngsters are actually not. plenty are in Islamic international locations. i don't see any harm in it; no-one's being compelled to alter faith, and a minimum of, with any luck non-Christians will see the Christian faith as one that cares for each guy or woman, no rely what their ideals. I make a minimum of one shoe field each 365 days, for Operation Christmas toddler (Samaritan's handbag)

You're deluded - most of this stuff gets grabbed by corrupt individuals en-route and is distributed among their own well-to-do families.
Unless of course you deliver it to the poor yourself.
