It's possible. ^_^ You know we could conduct an experiment to test this hypothesis.

The hypothesis would be something like, "Shiny objects distract them from their sadness", right?

Ok, then the ultimate test of this....would be to turn the emo kids *into* some sort of "Shiny object", the idea being, if the hypothesis held up, they'd be too distracted by, oh, *breathing* and looking around to even *be* emo anymore....

*lol* ^_^ Okok, maybe that sounds a bit nutty on its own face value. But still, I could see it working.

All you have to do is find a way to put an emo-girl (for example) to sleep, change her clothes, say into something more Valley-Girlish, and see how she reacts, say, to having her arms and legs *turned shiny* by way of nylon and lycra tights.

Ahh, but what am I saying? ^_^ That would just be too creepy for words, wouldn't it...?

And there's likely the real source of the distraction right there, those "emo kids" wanting to be "creepy" and "disturbing".

Just saying....

Interesting question, there actually may be some truth to this. They're just so "sad" and nobody understands them. Boohoo life is just so hard isn't it. The ones that can afford these shiny studded belts just don't understand what true saddness is, if they looked outside at the rest of the world and seen what it's like to go without food or a home, maybe they'd realize how good they have it. Sorry to sound preachy, it just gets to me because you hear the 'emos' always saying they're sad and that life sucks and no one understands. Sigh.
