This depends on the graphics card/motherboard that you have i.e. if you graphics is integrated with the board but ATI and NVIDIA have an option were you can have an icon in the system tray to quickly switch between resolutions. To activate it you have to go into Display properties then advanced and click the NVIDIA or ATI tab to see were the option is.

If your PC uses an nVidia graphics card, their's an Icon (by the clock) to change the resolution included with the driver.

Otherwise, Right-click, Properties, etc. is the only option.

TIP: LCD monitors should only use their native resolution.
