That depends on whether you're willing to buy a new laptop if it fails out of the standard 1 year warranty period.

Laptops tend to use proprietary components which make them very expensive to repair when things go wrong so it is worth paying extra for a 3 year warranty otherwise in the event of failure you'll be up for a repair bill of more than the laptop is worth.

Not sure a 7 month spilling something onto it would be covered by the warranty, if you're lucky an extended warranty might offer accident coverage.

I'm pretty sure you will be responsible for backing up your own data. Its a bummer, I know, since it sounds like you can't with your computer in the shape it in. Worse, I fear that you will be told by HP that the screen damage voids any warranty you may have. I had the same experience the only difference being that Ii definitely had a warranty. But HP insisted the screen had been damaged and so the warranty was void. Their Tech Service people mishandled the problem repeatedly and left me very disappointed with HP. FWIW the repair (a new screen) was $400+ and if I chose not to authorize it, I would still have to pay an evaluation fee of $89. I'm not saying whether these charges are fair or not...just FYI. Good luck with your problem.

This depends on the price and the hardware you have inside your laptop. If you have for example a high end graphics card then I would get the extended warranty. Remember that many laptops have parts that cannot be replaced easily, so parts and labor to repair your laptop can go higher than the cost of the laptop itself once a year or two passes and the parts are hard to come by.

Just so you know my graphics card in my 1600$ laptop went 2 months after my warranty expired. I am installing it myself but the part was VERY hard to come by.

No, extended warranties are a con. But if you're accident prone or worried about the laptop getting damaged, insurance can be a good investment.
