I asked this young man who he likes for president. This will be his first presidential election (he's 20). He said he will vote for Hillary Clinton. I asked him why.

He said, "Well its not that I really have much of an opinion on her policies and I really don't have anything against any of the other candidates, I just want to be able to say that I was part of the first woman ever to be elected president of the United States."

It made me wonder how common this is among possible Clinton supporters, and also, the same thing can be said of Obama as far as being the first Black president so I wonder if people are blindly thinking that about that as others are about Clinton.

It is just very scary that people would put 4 YEARS of America's destiny on the line for such a petty and ultimately insignificant reason. If you like her policies or her ideology, fine, but to blindly vote for someone based on sex or race is the ultimate in ignorance.

This case is very similar to someone casting a vote for someone because they're a former president's son.

A typical Hillary Clinton voter is someone from New York Since that is the only place she would have run yet. So it would be best to ask New Yorkers. They are the only ones who have ever voted for her.
Our destiny has been put on the line for many reasons. Al Smith was Catholic, but we have no idea what he could have done. Kennedy was voted in over Nixon because of his looks and his wife.
The ultimate in ignorance is to not realize that others do not always think like you do, or care what you think.

Yes they are commode hugging Democrats without a clue for the country, it's insane. It's all a joke and no wonder someone is jokingly called "insane" for a middle name. It is sad that this has gone on for so long and shame on all presidents that allowed it. I've heard all the stories about they just want to come here and do work, crime that Americans will not do, but it's a joke. Another interesting thing is that one in seven of the half million they catch si from a terrorist sponsoring nation. A while back 3 Iraqi brothers came in posing as migrant workers and then asked for asylum. Another thing folks don't understand is that 4 million people come here every year on visas by virtue of the 'favored nation" agreement with have with 26 other nations. According to ICE only 2 million honor the visa and leave. Wonder how long that has been going on? This year the lobbyists contributions to our great senators and House members is suppose to top $4 billion*. Please look at the below site it shows how much they take in, from whom and how they vote. With this money they can be reelected, when they leave they take it with them. they hire family members with it and the lobbyists hire the rest. LIke Sen. Harry Reid, his four children either have or are working for lobbyists right now! most f them do, not picking on him. So they will do nothing. the Democrats are really courting the Hispanics as they almost double the black vote and they need it. just as Bush and McCain wanted amnesty. the problem is that true Mexican Americans basically cannot stand the illegals as most crime in done in their areas. Same with the people who obey the law and walk the walk. Fellow I worked with in dallas was livid at the thought of amnesty as it took him five years. Although many do want extended family to come. So the Democrats maybe think they can just push the mindless along, but hey are making a mistake. This hing has got to be done right. In closing do yo know how many jobs would be lost if they got it under control. Think of all the drug dealers losing out. Ha, ha. Have a great summer and much better answers, but want to put in my two cents.

Well this type of voting is also contigent w/ ppl of that age just voting for a party because thats what they were raised to vote. This is the problem I see with the majority of my friends(im 22). Most of then are "republican" because their parents are.. yet if they look at the issues that actually matter to them(not talkin about politics) they completely are against the party's views.

I haven't even began to look at the candidates yet, but i am confident in saying that I will not vote for someone if I do not know their standings. I certainly won't vote for someone JUST because they'd be the first woman or minority president.

To add to ur quote "to blindly vote for someone" based upon their Politcal party is just as equivilant to voting just because of their race or gender.

Of course that is a horrible reason to vote for anyone. But most voters vote that way, whether they realize or admit it or not. How many people voted for George W. Bush because he was the Republican candidate, not because they truly thought he was best for the job? Or vice versa. We as a country and as citizens will be better off when we vote with an open mind, for the people we think are the best fit for the job. This is the whole problem with political parties, most voters stick to their party without knowing much if anything about the candidates.

That scares me if even a small percentage of the population feels that way. There is another question on line about why minorities and women have not been elected President yet (even comparing it wrongly to the Queen of England). It takes many years of seeing someone in political positions to judge if they are suitable for the office of President, that is why I could not vote in the past for a Perot or Jessie Jackson. Now that women and minorities have taken positions in leadership as governors, Senators, Cabinet officials you will see suitable candidates and just voting for the first black or women to run will not be a reason but because they are qualified.

One certainly must wonder what would motivate any voter to support Hillary since she has accomplished so little in her life. If she was not Bill Clinton's wife she never would have been elected to the Senate and certainly not Senator from New York. In fact, what does her resume include, anyway? A term and a half as junior Senator? How impressive. Then again when she stands up next to Obama who has half a term as a junior Senator I guess she looks much better.

When it comes to Hillary Clinton, voting for her because she is female is as good as any other reason anyone could possibly come up with.

Well, we had more than 40 rich white men in the Oval Office, and look where we are today. I don't much like Hillary, but I don't know what she could do that would be any worse than those who have come before her.

Furthermore, I see plenty of people in these forums who would NEVER vote for a woman or a black because of race or gender, so is that better than voting FOR one because of race or gender?

It seemed to me that the young man more expressed his view in a historical perspective not prejudice. I too feel this way but, I also consider Hillary's ability and feel she's the right man for the job.LOL
