I'm not sure if it's really that much of an issue. I was pregnant with Monoamniotic twins and in the hospital on bed rest for 5 1/2 weeks before my boys were born and the whole time there they gave me Ambien at night. It was a very low dose, but it did help me sleep and it didn't have any effects at all on the twins. I delivered at 31 weeks and probably took the Ambien every night from week 26 up through delivery. I'd ask your doctor just to be sure, but another thing to consider is that you've already been taking it for a while and nothing is good to take for a prolonged period of time, even more so when you're pregnant. Congratulations and good luck! :)

My doctor gave me a list of safe medications to take while pregnant and I also take Tylenol PM once in a while. The sleep aid in Tylenol PM is the same thing as Benadryl and can be taken seperately or together. I double checked on my list of approved medications. Although I wouldn't take it every night or maybe more than twice a week just because you never know what effect it has on your baby. I don't sleep good at all either but I have only taken it a handful of times and im 30 weeks pregnant. So I think its ok just don't abuse it and its always smart to check with your doctor anyway!! GL

Always check with your doctor first about any medication as different doctors give different opinions. My OB-GYN allowed me to take tylenol pm during pregnancy. I took it some nights during my 3rd trimester since severe back pain & a huge belly was keeping me from getting decent sleep at night. I think anything in excess may not be healthy for a developing baby, and since you are in the beginning of pregnancy and may be dependent on tylenol pm to get to sleep every night, I would mention this to your doctor and asked to be referred to a sleep disorder clinic. Maybe there are other methods that could help you get better sleep without the use of medication.
Just my thought.

Erika G said more or less what I thought. Both Tylenol and Benedryl are Generally safe. But there's no point in taking the acetaminophen if you don't need it. Ask your doctor what they think about taking an occasional dose of Benedryl to help you sleep. And please get an opinion from someone who knows You before trying anything.
Congrats by the way

Tylenol PM contains the active ingredient in Tylenol (acetaminophen) and the active ingredient in Benadryl (diphenhydramine.) Tylenol is safe during pregnancy. Benadryl is considered by most to be safe for pregnancy, however, there are some doctors and midwives who recommend avoiding Benadryl until the second trimester.
My own doctor told me that Tylenol PM or Benadryl were fine to take if I needed them to get to sleep but I chose to avoid it until the second trimester. The best thing to do in this case is always to consult your own doctor or midwife and ask him or her.

I also suffer from insomnia and during both my pregnancy's was told that tylenol PM was not safe. I had some success with chamomile tea and relaxation exercises.
The upside to the insomnia is I never had problems doing the night shift once the babies arrived! Definitely a bonus for my husband.

I dont think you should take it. You shouldnt really take anything unless absolutly nessecary. Call the doctor and usually they can tell you if it is okay right over the phone, but you will start getting your sleep i am sure, pregnancy makes you very tired. Never chance taking anything when you are pregnant! that one little time might make a huge different in that childs life.

No. I don't remember the name of the ingredient- but I rremember being told not to take it. What was suggested for my insomnia was Celestrial Seasons "Sleepy Time Tea" It was really helpful in getting to sleep!! Good Luck.

I'm pretty sure it is. You need to talk to a doctor. If you don't have one yet go to the nearest walmart/walgreens (anywhere really) And ask the pharmacist, you can even call probably!
