Everyone is saying dont bother...I cant believe that. Yeah maybe your baby WONT remember, but I want to make a tradition of making birthdays special. I like tradition, and my family made me feel special on my birthday and I intend to do the same! I lived in Hawaii for a couple of years and there the first birthday party is the most lavish, most important birthday party of your life. They go all out!!!! Its truely a milestone because not every baby makes it to 1! My twins are 11 months old and while their birthday party may not be like the hawaiians, they will have cakes and toys and balloons, and I will make it as special as can be! If not for them, then for the memories that I will carry with me all of my life!
Go all out if you want to, its your only child after all!

I just had my daughters first b-day party 2 weeks ago. We ordered pizzas for everyone to eat. I ordered her cake at Wal-mart, they have a special at the one by me (maybe the others too, but I'm not sure) for a first b-day, when you order a sheet cake you get a free little "smasher cake" also. If your son takes a nap, be sure to work around that. My daughter naps around noon, so we made the party for 2. Also, wrapping the presents for the child to open probably isn't a great idea. I thought it would be cute to wrap all my daughters, and found out that she wanted nothing to do with ripping them open, so I was the one opening them for her. I also took a garbage bag and cut it open and layed it out under her high chair for easy cleaning up after she dug into her cake. Good luck!

Don't stress about it. Get together w/ your good friends and family, and have a BBQ or something like that. Don't worry about silly expensive themes or inviting other one yr olds, if you don't even know their parents. It's more for you than him, although he'll see pictures later, so don't forget the camera! Give him a piece of cake to dig into for fun. he prolly won't eat much anyway.

Just keep it small with friends and family popping round.

Cake is fun and he'll enjoy a taste of it!

Don't plan anything huge - he won't know what is going on but he will be happy to see everyone that he loves there to see him.

He'll like the baloons too!

We had a great first birthday party for our little girl! we invited only our family and close friends and had finger foods for the kids and a BBQ for the adults (admitedly this was the summer tho!). If anyone wanted alcohol they had to bring their own (which meant no one drunk too much) and we supplied soft drinks. She had such a great time that we did the same again for her second and third birthdays!
