It actually depends. Usually, abortion is legally restricted at some point during the second trimester and then throughout the rest of the pregnancy. However, if the pregnancy is threatening the Woman's health or life, then she can show just cause on why she should have an abortion later than that time. Abortions in the second trimester and later only account for a very small number of abortions each year.

Usually, these were Wanted pregnancies where something went tragically wrong and had to be ended for the Woman's health and life to continue.

The vast majority of abortions are performed at 8 weeks and account for over 90% of all abortions. Abortions to 12 weeks make up the majority of the rest with, again, very few occurring later.

Peace,
Jenn

P.S. A previous poster mentioned a D&X. Per the US Supreme Court, these are no longer legally available. Women who need to end an unviable or dangerous pregnancy now must either go through the More dangerous and traumatic labor and delivery abortion method or must go through a c-section. However, since there is something wrong with the pregnancy or fetus to begin with in these few pregnancies, there will be NO baby at the end of it.

Unfortunately in the United States (I don't know about other countries), the baby is never considered too big for an abortion. Only a few states have laws limiting abortion after 24 weeks, but most states don't even have that. I don't see what "size" should have to do with it though. A baby has a beating heart by 6 weeks and all of its major organ systems and body structures formed by 12 weeks. Does that help YOU determine when you think an abortion would not be acceptable?

(WEN) Sorry but if ur thinking bout aborting a baby then u need to think twice because that is very wrong. its not the babys fault u got pregnant and dont want it! My advice to u... DONT HAVE SEX IF U DONT WANT A BABY!

There's no such thing as a baby too big for an abortion. After all, born or aborted, it would still exit on the same... exit? way? Whatever. However, there are laws that prohibit abortion after how many days.

They won't do an abortion after 24 weeks, but some babys have been known to be born and survive at that age.

A baby is a Baby as soon as conception! Tha baby already has a soul... and a heartbeat at about 2 weeks and forming fingers and shape at about 6 weeks.

Most clinics will not do it after 14 weeks. Some will do it up until 24 weeks, but it is much more costly at that point and many won't do it that far along becasue of ethical reasons.

generally end of first trimester. don't listen to other people who give you crap. i am in my third pregnancy but the other two i had terminations because i thought i was too young. there are usually other circumstances to think about as well. my first 2 i was on the pill and my partner had used a condom so it is not always just unprotected sex that does it. unfortunately for me the pill, depo-prevera needle and the implant that goes in your upper arm don't work for me so i thought about it then decided. by the way i am due in 4days but I'm pretty sure I'm in early labour now. and i am 23. the two terminations i had i was 19 then 21. each person is different and there will always be people who will rag on you and others that will support your decision.... trust me.
