Illness, such as a flu, can completely dry up your milk supply. It's important for your baby to not get dehydrated, and to get the nutrition he needs, so supplement breastfeeding with formula. Definitely talk to your pediatrician about this right away.

It is possible that your milk will return after your illness goes away, although, that is unlikely. I would suggest taking the herb Fenugreek, drinking mother's milk tea, and pumping every two hours. If the milk doesn't return after a week of this, you are done breastfeeding.

Good luck.

Most women that I know that have had this kind of problem weren't drinking enough water a day. Happened with each of my 3 female cousins. Drink at least 64 oz of water a day while nursing. Also make sure you are getting no less than 2000 calories a day. Remember the baby will take 500 of that. Most of my cousins were not eating more than 1600 calories a day and it kept them from giving the baby what the baby needed. Good luck and hope it helps

even with the flu, you're recommended to drink extra liquids. As with breastfeeding you also need extra liquids. So my guess is you might also be dehydrated. Drink up. Then also supplementally pump to get your supply back up.

It might be temporary while you are sick...if u have to supplement with formula because you dont want your baby to lose any weight. You can try pumping and drink lots of fluids.
