Do you think it has anything to do with what the person has going on inside? i.e. Girls dressing as sluts, homophobes dressing as women, kids dressing as super-heros, and the abnormal dressing as demons or ghouls...

What would cause a person to choose
one costume type over another?

It's your alter ego, what you wish you could be, or what you really see yourself as inside. I used to dress up as a Power Ranger a lot as a child... And now I simply manifest the darkness within by dressing as something that isn't REALLY evil, but is often seen that way.

Every Halloween I am a sexy witch. I wear a tight fitting black dress with purple waist tie and detailing, a gray and black long wig, tall black boots and of course a witch hat trimmed in purple. Halloween is my favorite holiday. This is a day to dress up and pretend to be what ever you like. Whether it is naughty or nice. I chose a witch because I adore horror. I do not find it scary or horrifying. I find it amusing and entertaining. But instead of the idealistic scary witch that you see in movies, I actually chose something more realistic. I do not believe witches are moles and brooms. I believe they can be attractive, seductive and mystical. This is what I portray in my costume. I think a costume choice has a lot to do with ones personality. A person who is shy probably would not chose a sexy bunny or sexy outfit. You have to feel comfortable in the costume. Though it is Halloween it is still your persona.

That I love to have fun.

We have accumulated a wide range of costumes over the years, ranging from a Klingon, King Tut, a wizard, the Big Bad Wolf, mad scientist, among others.

I recall one costume I sorta wore when we stationed at Spanghlem AB, Germany. Was trick or treating with our two kiddo's. Got them all dressed up with stuff around the apartment. I wore street clothes but put on a pair of bunny ears. When I was asked about that I replied "I'm just somebunny" Got laughs out of that.

:)

I have a beard, and usually don't feel like wearing a mask, so I am limited to costumes where a beard makes sense. Usually a 'wolfman'.

I did shave it once just to dress as Nosferatu, but that was many years ago.

Halloween is the only time that you get to be someone or something other than yourself. Your alter ego. Your dark side. The person you wish you could be

Each of us wears many masks to hide our inner selves because we fear that what we truly are is unacceptable to the majority. Only when we are able to accept everything about ourselves as unique and acceptable can we dare it to others openly and honestly.
