Just wondered! Don't we have way too many cats as is?

how about all cats
they take up space that could be used for more dogs,
and they make your house reek

Euthanize yourself? No.
Many pounds are even working towards the goal of not having to euthanize any of their animals. To do it, simply for the sake of reducing the population, is essentially murder (and "no", I'm not an animal freak).
If the cat is definitely a stray and otherwise healthy, the best thing you can do for it, is to make sure it is spayed or neutered, to ensure it does not add to the population.
I know of several local governments, that have catch/neuter/release programs. Contact your local animal control office, and ask them what they can do about the problem.
