hi
can anybody EXPLAIN how to answere the problem but not answere it? How do you find what z is
3/4 (z-6) = 12
Here is how I did it (but its wrong)
3/4 z -(-4 1/2)=12
-4 1/2 -4 1/2
3/4 z = 7 1/2
divided by 3/4 divided by 3/4
z =10

chek
3/4 ( 10 - 6 ) =3
PLEAS help!

3/4 (z-6) = 12
3z/4 - 18/4 =12
3z/4 = 12 + 18/4
3z/4 = 16 1/2
z=22

Hey
one way is to multiply by 4/3 to eliminate the fraction from the LHS(left hand side of the equation) and there after solve the problem. However, in future the equation may not be as simple. So the other best way is to open the bracket in the correct manner :-
3/4z - 9/2 = 12
3/4z = (24+9)/2
3/4z = 33/2
z = 33/2 x 4/3
z = 22

Viola!!!!!!!!!

It would have been much easier to multiply both sides by 4/3 first yielding

z-6 = 16

Your first error was when you inserted an extra negative sign before 4 1/2

3/4 (z-6) = 12
z-6 = 16 (multiplied both sides by 4/3)
z = 22 (added 6 to both sides)

check:
3/4 (22-6) = 12
3/4 (16) = 12
12 = 12

3/4(Z-6)=12
(Z-6) = 12 DIVIDED by 3/4
Z-6=12/.75
Z-6 = 16
Z = 16 + 6
Z = 22

Substitute 22 and you'll see it solves the equation.

That'll be $50! :)
