No, this is a bad deal. On top of that buy.com is not a good place to purchase laptops (poor customer service, bad return policies) Right now, the best deal on the net for a great laptop in that price range is the Lenovo 3000 C200 at Office Depot. See link for deal. Lenovo's are known for quality and the laptop's components are top notch. See the second link for some more deals if your looking around.

I would like to suggest you watch the ads in the Sunday paper. Here, we have half-dozen computer stores competing. They run weekend specials and very good buys close to holidays.

Two months ago, I picked up a Toshiba laptop with Vista, and 512mb RAM. I paid $399 (after rebates) and got a free PSC. Both work great - except for Vista. Vista is so big it uses too much memory and I'm in the process of getting an addition 512mb chip.

Please look around and if the laptop comes with Vista, be sure to get at least 1gb RAM. Life will be easier if it is installed rather than you having to get it after the fact like me.

check it out and compare:

I've never heard of Westinghouse, before so can't comment on them. If your looking for a computer with XP, then yeah it's a fairly decent deal. The price is good for a refurshed laptop and the memory is pretty basic. Most laptop now a days have a gig of system memory and 80 Gig's and up of a hard drive.

Now this cost a couple hundred more, but it is a brand that is well known and it not a used computer.

In one word, YES.
Connecting so many cables and getting desktops to work is the most troublesome job. A laptop has everything integrated into a single casing.
