I don't know where you're from but I'm from New york and pretty much know every boro like the back of my hand , listen to me when I tell you, Hip-hop has no control over new york AT ALL ... ok? NONE

The mafia families and the government control New York. When you hear rappers like P. Diddy and 50 cent say they run new york it's complete bullshit. Rapper/slash drug dealers 'control' little pieces of harlem and other ghettos around new york, but are pretty much banned from selling bulk in certain area's which are basically Mafia controlled well-to-do areas like Southern Manhattan and Southern Staten Island. All drugs coming into new york come in through Mafia Families which then distribute it to 'small timers' like what 50 cent claims to be.

Now in terms of who has control of hip-hop in new york, again NO ONE, and if you really want to give someone that post then it's the New York Branches of the record labels that promote hip-hop artists from the tri-state area, not any specific rapper or group, they can run their mouths all they want , but once an exec decides to sign them away or blacklist them, it WILL happen.

In closing I will repeat ....hip-hop has NO control over new york, to control new york you have to do a little more than convince a few hundred thousand kids to by overpriced sneakers and buy magazines with your face on it, the people who hip-hop controls in new york aren't really worth much and don't contribute to the Cities well being.... like I said, the mob and the local government control the city...

Undead and garfieldfalcons are on point, but I don't think u meant it like that. It depends on who u ask, but it's not Diddy or 50. I say Nas, but it's really Jay-Z.
