hey there, i have to do a persuasive speech for my speech communication class and so i'm really clueless about what topic to go with. I mean it has to be informative and yet persuasive at the same time. And so, i don't want to choose some overused topic like euthanasia, or ufo's or abortion... boring.. need some new topic thats probably an on-going, UP-TO-DATE debatable issue..any ideas people?!

For a beginner it is important to find a topic that you know, understand, and have some passion for. When I had to give a similar speech I chose to inform my classmates about the benefits of chiropractic treatments. I had chronic back pain and knew everything there was to know about the topic. I was able to send many people merrily off to a Chiropractor.

Another student installed window blinds for a living. He took one apart before our very eyes and taught us how to care for them and how to install them correctly. I have never forgotten that speech. Visual aids are helpful.

Use issues important in your community. For example, how do you feel about the memorial planned for Ground Zero? There is much information out there, and more than one way to see it.

What are your classmates talking about? If Ms. Spears is a hot topic, you might want to talk about parenting issues - how much latitude should the courts have in severing parental control over a child's life? OJ? Should a criminal be allowed to profit from his crimes? What if his profits go to his own children or the children of his victims?
If you want to take it on, politics is always a hot topic. Where do you stand on health care? Tax reform? Public finance of elections?
Scan the talk show topics for current issues.
Scan news magazines for headlines that capture your attention.
I don't know your age group or area, so more specifics are difficult. If you are under 18, mental health care is a great subject. If you are under 21, planning for the future. 21 - 31 - family vs. career, 31 + personal happiness vs. financial security....and so on.
Let us know what you decide, please.

Here are some topics in the news:
-Is the justice system still racially biased as it was in the 50s and 60s?
-Global warming and how to stop it from progressing.
-Health care and the rising cost of it for Americans
-Childhood obestiy: who should prevent it and how.
-The disparity of punishment between female teachers having relationships w/ their students and male teachers having relationships w/ their students.
-Celebrity justice of lack thereof.
-Steroids and professional athletes: should they be allowed? Does this make a major accomplishment (such as breaking a record) mean less?
-Talking on a cell phone while driving: is hands-free okay or should it be banned all together?

forget the political topic. it will bored all the class. better start with something simple in ur daily life. the most up-to-date thing is the debatable 'smoking banned'. if u are pro, tell them abt the smoking risks, the effects for ur life, etc etc. if u are contra, describe abt how the cigarette companies have big roles as the tax payer, employ so many labors, etc etc.
if u are neutral, then describe both.

i'm pretty sure u will get a lot of responds!!!
