I never start my actual gift shopping until a couple of weeks before Christmas. However, I've been making gifts now for several months.
I would never go out in all that chaos on the day after Thanksgiving to fight over sale items. It's not my style. I use that day to sign and address all my Christmas cards.

I used to start the day after Christmas, to get the sales. Now I don't start until the day after Thanksgiving.

I never really stop or start shopping. I do it all year round. I'm a bargin hunter. When I find a good deal on something I know someone needs or would love I buy it and save it for Christmas.
I also buy things and go back to the store to see if the price has gone down at all, if it has, I bring the receipt and get the difference back.
Forget Black Friday, it's WAYYY to stressful for me.

I'm done by the day after Thanksgiving. I watch for sales and special items all year, and when I find something that I know one of my recipients will like, I buy it then and there.

I have kind of start with Christmas present. I found something for My Mum months ago, I have been think about what to get my sister. The rest I will look around the shop until something stick out at me to buy for them.
