Does it violate a Doctor's privacy ethics if he brings up the different STDs I've had in the past in front of the nurse? He does this every month I go for testing (i.e., "You want to do the usual screening? I know you've had a lot of problems with this in the past!! Ha ha")

I think you could put an end to this by simply rsponding with something like "Well if you hadn't insisted even though you had those lesions...ha-ha."

No, you can't sue for him disclosing information in front of his nurse. As a matter fact he should have a nurse present since he is a male doctor and he is going to preform exam.
You can NOT sue a doctor for bad bed side manners either.
You CAN switch doctors or tell him that you don't appreciate his beside manners. That you can do.

I'm not sure if it's illegal where you are - it's a complicated area that varies from place to place. People who treat you often have to disclose your medical history to other medicos - and to an extent it's assumed that you're okay with that.
That said, since you're *not* okay with it it's certainly okay to ask him not to - or switch doctor if you'd like to. Even if he believes it is necessary to have another person present when he asks you about STD checks (for legal purposes), there is no reason that he should need to disclose you've had them in the past.

i am a student nurse and from my learnings, i am sorry to say that your doctor doesn't have any ethics or professionalism at all. i know how much people or patients would feel bad talking about their diseases or any illnesses they have in public. though i still consider that these said doctors are very busy, i know for the fact that every patient well or ill MUST be treated with QUALITY service.
maybe it's not a bad option if you would change your physician. maybe one who is more of a people-person, with emotional, mental, and all aspects who can stand for his and her patients right for confidentiality.
take care and get well soon.

Doctors have 2 ask this questions in front of nurses. Everything that has 2 do w/ sex life, periods, etc, he's gonna ask in front of her. And this is because a lot of women before thought that being only w/ the doctor in the room and asking this question is not normal, n doctors ended up in court because of sexual harassment...lol...so dont worry, every time i go he calls the nurse when he's going to ask me about my periods etc. =]

The trailer park thing really set you over the top, how original.
Your nurse has access to your medical records, so he isn't saying anything she isn't reading on your chart.
Find a better way to cure your boredom, PLEASE!

Maybe he's just trying to make light of the fact that you're dirtier than a Home Alone sequel involving Michael Jackson.
