It appears that of the opinions that I read of people who bash the US, think the US is evil, or at least as evil as any other country out there. But yet these people only see fit to demonize and criticize the US.

If all countries are equally evil, and you live in the US, wouldn't it behoove you to at least support the country you live in?
Knowing that other governments want the US wiped off the face of the earth, knowing that you live in the US, why wouldn't you stand up for it? (all of its good, bad and ugly)

Perhaps the question is not as clear as I would like it to be, so please try to understand the gist of it and respond accordingly. Thanks! (PS, I'm batoning down the hatches in anticipation of the impending onslaught of brutal opinions of this question.) :(

It is easy to bash the US. There is no down side to it. People who protest US policy, or call us evil, know that they will not be jailed, tortured, or killed for it. In fact they will be congratulated for their enlighted courageous stand by the leftist children of the world. Now if these folks had any guts they would try this in Iran. or other countries where human rights are just a pipe dream.

Nationalism seems to insits these days that we support EVERY aspect of our govt's dealings, good or bad.

I no less bash the US than I do France, or Iran or Iraq--bad deciaions are bad decisions. Buisness has a way of seeming true blue in the eyes of many conservatives, while others cast a more discriminating eye. The industrial miliatary complex isnt sueaky clean in our country, nor is it in China, for example. Every gov't is a little corrupt, but recently ours is REALLY corrupt.

If I were here and being attacked I would have no choice but to defend it, and would do so gladly. If innocent people were being killed in Iraq what choice would I have, if I were living there, but to defend it? Right is right, wrong is wrong no matter what country you live in.

Would it be fair to attack US because the jehovah witnesses were planning and carrying out terrorist attacks? What if Bush had been meeting with them prior? Would it justify killing hundreds of thousands of americans in the process?

When we can look at individual problems, and not "countries" as our enemies, we can start effecting change in the world and truly banish war as a solution......

I think your question ignores a basic fact. This is the idea that what you might consider patriotic, or good for the country, may not be the same as how I would view it. There are people who hate the United States this just cannot be denied. However, there are also people who perceive injustice and whether correct or not are often denigrated and labeled as unpatriotic for speaking out. Sometimes we all need to try and step outside ourselves in order to view the issue from both sides. After doing so you may still not agree with the counter position, but you might have a better understanding of it.

For the left which is evil to feel good about them self's they must project this upon the USA to feel like they can say they are like other counties.
This is narcissism for they can never look at the truth and this is an important aspect to appear to be like others to fit in as long as it doesn't bring them to face the truth about themselves.
Pure Evil they are. "People of the Lie" read about by M. Scott Peck

I think there are two factors. First of all, the people that are happy living in the US most-likely don't feel the need to defend the US in Yahoo!Answers. It's a waste of time to try to convince many of these people that the US is a great country.
Secondly, I don't think there is a uniform understanding or appreciation of the US government. Republicans will most likely tell you that the US is great because of the government. Democrats will most likely tell you that the US is great despite the government.
The fact that American's don't agree on these facts makes it hard to present a unified front against those who have beefs with US policies.

I see very few Americans on here bashing this country. I know you are asking this question to bash liberals. Well some of them do the same thing to Bush. Most people in this country love it. And bashing political ideas does not mean they hate the country. They are disagreeing with the way it is ran. Why conservatives cannot grasp this is beyond me. I think their hatred of half the country blinds them.

As a citizen of the U.S. I don't think it is evil. Our leadership is another thing. That is where the evil lies. This country was once rich in it's diverse thinking. Now is being told you must think and act a certain way to be a proper, patriotic citizen. Once we led in innovative, creative thought and production. Now we just appear interested in Viagra and what stupid thing some Hollywood dolt did and said. We are loosing our way. I will always stand up for America as I will always stand up for what is right.

I love my country and I think that you are confusing a difference of opinion with lack of respect. I feel as if my duty as a citizen is to question our government. I feel as if my duty as a citizen is to make sure that my government is doing what is good for the majority. And that's why I love my country. I have the right to ask. That doesn't make me think my country is evil.

Human nature is the same everywhere. No country or nation can afford to throw stones at another country.
