I have two slots in one of them i put 512 and the other 1GB. Both the chips are of same speed 533mhz. I increased virtual ram to 1 and half times the memory size. I system shows 1.5 GB of memory but still it is not fast. I have intel core duo processor and xp os. Any clues ?

The issue might not be the amount of RAM, but the speed of your communications link and/or the way you are storing the photo images and the size of the files?

RAM doesn't fix all speed issues with a PC. It certainly helps the way your PC functions but....

Assuming your PC is functioning at it's optimum, here are my inputs.

When it comes to downloading there are several things you need to consider when it comes to "speed" and the internet.

1. Is it a person's PC that you are downloading from?
2. Is it a very busy site that you are downloading from?
3. Is the site/web page very busy?

Here's why I ask those questions.

With all things considered the download speed you realize essentially depends on very basic things.

The download speed of your internet connection, the upload speed of the person or site/web page you are downloading from, and the site/page traffic.

For example: I'm on Verizon DSL. My download speeds are rated at "up to 3MB per second" and my upload speed is only allowed to be at 600 KB per second. That's quite a difference. I download quite well but my upload is a bit on the slower side.

So if a person's upload speed is extremely limited by his/her internet provider your download will be slow.

If the site/web page is very busy, your downloads will be slow also.

So download and upload speeds, and "traffic" are key factors in what you realize at your PC.

If you are dealing with downloading using P2P networks then you are primarily dealing with the "upload" speeds of the person allowing you to share from them, and not your personal download speed of your ISP.

Hope this helps.

The amount of ram you have has nothing to do with your downloads on the net. If you want faster downloads get a faster internet connection.
