Yes, if you have a CPA, your resume will look MUCH better. However, getting a CPA isn't as easy as joining a club. You need to meet certain requirements such as 5 years of college and passing an exam. For more details, look here:

Joining any professional society is usually just a matter of paying the right fees (I have a very wealthy friend who has memberships in virtually anything you can think of, even though he has nothing to do with them; he says he gets good discounts and even gets to go to "parties" and such; he's a people-person, so he gets to "schmooze" a lot; he also says they offer great learning experiences).
I presume you were referring to the "The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants" (refer to the link, below), whose membership requirements vary, basically from non-CPA to someone who has passed the CPA exams and is certified to practice.
Although it might boost your resume, keep in mind that many people in a given industry belong to one group or another, and employers know that. If everybody in a given industry is a union member or belongs to a given organization, even if only by paper, as with most memberships, then it's almost meaningless to the employer.
Good grades and proof of your capabilities are far more important than any membership you may have.
Besides, consider this: How would you respond when the prospective employer asks how long you have been a member. If you say, "a month" (many membership cards carry such information on them, so don't lie!), does that make you worse than someone who has been a member for years, in the eyes of the employer?
