I just feel that the victim has been forgotten about in this case. He was beaten unconscious!

Simply me - yes, I understand that. But he was still assaulted, the long term effects are still unknown.

Jeremy- Thanks for your input I hear what your saying but I don't agree that racial tentions should negate the seriousness of what these boys did. We can't justify violence against anyones kids no matter what the provocation.

In your opinion what do you think should happen to the Jena 6? Is there a middle ground. Can you be a supporter of the Jena 6 and still acknowledge a crime was committed?

It doesn't matter if the victim attended a school function later that night or not. He was still beaten by six other people. Reading the back story, the victim might have been a part of hanging a noose in a tree. But still, vigilantism is against the law. They claim that the kids who hung the noose can't be prosecuted under state laws, but there might be federal hate crime laws that would apply.
If it were my kid that was beaten I would want those people (only one of whom is a minor) to be fully prosecuted. I just don't understand where people get off demanding that the charges against these thugs be dismissed. One of them already has a violent crime on his record. They were seen beating and kicking the victim while he was unconscious. Why does the idea of them being upset over the noose negate their violent crime? Jesse Jackson apparently thinks that it does.

Petra, it's not as cut and dry as that. There has been racial tension in that town for a long time and it finally boiled over. You make it sound like they just randomly beat up some kid. You fail to mention that one of the black kids was beaten up a few days before by some white guys, and the "victim" was taunting him about it. Not to mention that kids were hanging nooses from the tree at school. Anybody ignorant enough to hang a noose like that deserves a beat down.

I don't think that the boys should have reacted the way they did, but I can understand their frustration. What they did wasn't right, but they shouldn't be charged with attempted murder, and they shouldn't be charged as adults. This isn't the first time that a group of teenagers got into a fight in this country, so why should they be punished more than other kids who have done the same thing?

The key issue in this case is that there appears to be an unbalanced justice system in that town. Had it been a group of white kids beating up a black kid, they wouldn't have been charged with the same crimes.

Thugs? funny.... i thought they were just a bunch of highschoolers.... Did you happen to miss the part of the story where 3 black students had to ASK to sit on a certain side of the schoolgrounds because that was the "white side"? and then the next day, 3 nooses were hung from the tree they sat under? Don't you see a little problem with that? Those kids should NEVER have to ask to sit anywhere. And did you miss the part where they said the day that the guy got beat up, it stemmed from an argument in a gym class? Boys will be boys and things like this happen in highschool. From the way this highschool sounds, something like this was bound to happen sooner or later. So if I were this boys parents, no i would NOT insist they be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. I would probably insist that they be punished accordingly by the schools rules. Believe me, if this had been a different situation and it was a black boy getting beat up by 6 white boys, they sure as hell wouldn't be getting prosecuted by the law.

And if he was really beaten so badly to the point of unconciousness, why was he able to attend a school function later that same night? I think you should get better details before you go pointing fingers. That boy who got beat up is fine. yeah, he's got cuts, scrapes and bruises, but everything will heal. There won't be any long term effects.

I would want them prosecuted and they should be. I think a lot of the problem with this case is law enforcement not acknowledging a problem over the past year, they waited until someone got hurt. Another problem is the media only reporting on parts of the story, if you research this some you will see what I mean. And finally Al Sharpton and his open pockets and racial thoughts, I cant believe Jesse Jackson associates himself with such a bigot. Jesse Jackson actually believes in equality for everyone, he is a great leader.

Yes, I would want the six individuals to be prosecuted. I think it is very unfortunate that the victim has been forgotten in this story.

You must be white! as a black woman/mother I have to say that if my son got the hell beat out of him the way those beat that other young man, I would want them to be prosecuted, but not to the extant.
You have to think if your child got into a fight would you want there life to be snatched away from him?
DON'T THINK WHITE.......THINK RIGHT! its such ashamed that after all we've(Americans) been through racism is still alive.
