That is easy, but first you have to figure out who really is causing the problem. Are you actually incompetent (no offense at all) at certain things or is your boss really just exagerating everything. Does he do this to other people? He may talk to everybody like this which probably means he has stress issues.

Either way, your boss definately needs to be told that he shouldnt insult you like that. But at the same time if he is partially correct in the points he makes to you then you must concede that you need to work on improving your skills.

But if you tend to do a lot of work that he takes credit for be it in promotion or collects the profit from, then you should try and find out who his boss is and speak to them. If he is the owner then he may need you more than he lets on which means that you should be able to match his over-the-top ego and put him in his place by pointing out all the stupid things he does.

If he whines that much though and does so with no basis at all, he is extremly stressed, concerned with his own performance, and most likely not confident in his own work habit which gives you a much safer position to fire back with the same kinds of quips that he does. Just make sure that what you say back isnt as idiotic and unfounded as what he says.

You can't do it without losing your job. That why he is YOUR boss and not the other way around. If I was you, I would find another job before telling your boss to go screw himself.

Find a better job if this one isn't working out.

What's the point in telling someone off, they will just come back with something, most do some can ignore it.

There is no polite way to tell someone to go screw themselves, and it wouldn't be very gratifying if there was. What is more important to you, your job, or the satisfaction of telling this guy to jerk off? Decide that, then act accordingly.

Of course you can't bark at him, you'll be giving him the easiest treat: firing you.
Please, search and find another job. When you've secured it, give him a few days notice. BUT- part on good terms so he doesn't diss you when any future reference checks call in.
Weeny head, huh?

You can't. That's insubordination and its legal grounds for firing.

So start looking for another position where you can be comfortable for 8 hours a day instead of annoyed.

If he is verbally abusive to you you should report him. I bet you have witnesses for that and if not just record him (nowadays it is so easy).
If that is not an option than just ignore him. I know it is hard sometimes but if you won't respond to his behaviour he will eventually get bored of bothering you and move on to somebody else.
