I read the article about the Colorodo University reporter saying F**K Bush in his article. He may now lose his job, but he is saying that his freedom of speech is being taken away. I have read many comments of people saying how this controversy is just another example of freedom of speech being eroded.

People need to understand that freedom of speech means that you won't be arrested for saying what you want. Example, I have the freedom to tell my boss to F**K Off if I want. I wont get arrested, but I will get fired.

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences. What do you all think?

I understand what freedom of speech is. I also understand what freedom of the press is. The story you cite was an editiorial in a college newspaper. Not an article written by a reporter. The newspaper is owned by the university. Not by the students. You only have freedom of the press if you own the press.
As for freedom of speech, you can say whatever you want. However, that does impose any obligation on me to listen.

I agree, to exercise your freedom of speech you may have to deal with the consequences but some people are intolerant to people speaking at all if it doesn't represent their ideas or principals.
Kind of like "freedom of speech, do it my way"
There are a lot of Conservative radio talk hosts that subscribe to this religiously.

I am in total agreement with you. We are free to express our opinions about whatever we want, but there are consequences. I think many people have either not had a good civics/government classes or have just forgotten what they learned in those classes. Cable television has a right to air just about anything they want to, and I have a right not to watch it.

If this reporter is fired,it will help to create a climate of fear,& people will be afraid to express their opinion. In Nazi Germany, any German could say,"F*ck Hitler" & suffer the consquences. That is NOT freedom of speech.
