Your question isn't complete. You have just stated the fact, that your copper pipes are deteriorating. Maybe you could re-due your question if you have the time. I have had to replace all my copper pipes Thur-out the house just recently. I would be interested in your question concerning your problem.

You can be thinking of two possibilities. One is the pipes from your supplier to the house. In that case it is buried pipe and it is common for them to deteriorate with age. The second is that piping in your home is deteriorating. Less common but happens because either or thin wall pipe was installed or acid flux spilled on the pipe during installation (and wasn't cleaned up.

In either case the pipes need to be replaced.

I have never heard of copper water pipes deteriorating, this would take acid. It's hard to believe. Maybe you could give some more information about this.

It is possible for 'city water' to be acidic... especially if you live in an area with sandstone bedrock and the water is from a well.
Probably, you'll just have to replace the pipes. A chemical system to treat the water might be expensive.
Why don't you contact the DEP for some advice??
