Meditation is the art of clearing your mind of concious thought. It takes effort but is that thinking? Its a matter of semantics from there.

By the nature of the word "think", it is a verb in which there is always another object, entity, concept, etc, to which "think" is targeted to. Thus asking if it is possible for you to think nothing is like asking if you could drink nothing. Which could mean two things:

1.) Yes, it is possible to think nothing, but it requires that you don't think. i.e. when you drink nothing, you don't actually drink

2.) No, it is not possible to think nothing, as there is always something that think is directed at. This is under the assumption that "thinking" is being performed as of the moment.

3.) Extra: By putting quotations on the word "NOTHING", you may be referring to the word itself.. :p so yes, in that case.

It would then be no-thinking, no-thought - for as long as one thinks, there is an idea present. A though of nothing is a thought nevertheless.

To go beyond thought altogether and be 'in Nothingness ' is another matter, if that Nothingness is recognized as the unmanifest totality; far from 'nothing', it is the everything.

It is possible to have no conscious thoughts present, however, I think it would be impossible to not have some internal stimulus arriving from your sub-conscious.

as soon as you think of nothing , you end up thinking of something, and therefore you can never think of nothing...furthermore, nothingness existing is contradictory, like 4 sided triangles, just try to think of it.

If you think nothing, you would be unaware that you have no thoughts, therefore anyone would answer this 'No'. This doesn't mean it is impossible.

Sure. I know -lots- of people who do it all the time. In fact...... I can think of a couple of people who probably can't do anything else ☺
