it needs to be ale to be sung by men and women and is a sad serious song.
it needs to fit in when the main girl dies (she was murdered) and is taken up to heaven by her sister (who died when she was young)
its a serious play that we are doing for my drama exam but cant think of a good song!

If it can be a musical theatre song (actually a portion of a song), what about in Les Miserables in Act 2 right after Beggars at the Feast when Jean Valjean is dying. After all the sung dialogue, the part where Fantine begins to sing (though anyone can sing it including a choir):

Fantine:
Come with me
Where chains will never bind you
All your grief
At last, at last behind you.
Lord in Heaven
Look down on him in mercy.

Valjean:
Forgive me all my trespasses
And take me to your glory.

Valjean, Fantine, and Eponine:
Take my hand
And lead me to salvation
Take my love
For love is everlasting.
And remember
The truth that once was spoken
To love another person
Is to see the face of God

You could of course change 'him' to 'her'. At this point Fantine and Eponine are ghosts who have come back to escort Valjean to heaven.

If you're not looking for anything from theatre or you prefer a whole song, you could try Tears in Heaven from Eric Clapton. http://www.lyricsfreak.com/e/eric+clapton/tears+in+heaven_20051574.html
Or Gone Too Soon by Michael Jackson (other artists have covered this song, especially since 9/11) http://members.aol.com/mjmusicfan/gone.html

good luck!
