I am talking to those of you who are making unfair jokes about American people on Yahoo Answers. I do live in Europe. I am raising two children here and it is not the people here in Europe that are upsetting me because they have the common courtesy not to make such jokes. The reason I live here is because I am married to a Swede. The people I am calling hipocrits are those making unfair jokes about Americans. I am not jealous about healthcare because I have it. What I want to know is why it is necessary for some people here to stereotype every American? I wouldn't do that to you. I haven't done it to anyone here. Do we have a small understanding now? Thanks.

calling people dumb isn't a very good way to get a serious response.

Europe is essentially a socialist country in many regards. Every American has access to healthcare regardless of financial means. How long does it take to be seen by a doctor or sugeon if you are desitute and of little means in Europe... 3,4,6 months? and how good is the care you are going to recieve when you finally do get it?
Many people fly across the world to be treated at our world class facilities. The people who make the unfair jokes about Americans are ones who have never been here and they that are here making unfair jokes about America wouldnt dream of re-seeding their roots back where they came from.

Anyone can stereotype anyone or thing.
I'm in the U.S., and I can joke about us also. For something to pass as a joke, it must contain one element of truth. And if it happens to support or is the punch line, then it's agreed we are able to laugh at ourselves. Right?
Unfair blanket statements, prejudicial ones obviously are not good.

With all due respect, the US is not putting forth its best face at the moment and our representatives uphold most of those negative stereotypes.

I don't blame anyone for thinking Americans are stupid, though I'm sure they realize we are not all that ignorant.

People who put some people down have serious self-esteem issues. Confident people don't put others down.
