Hey KP. This is a great question, and I'm now very curious myself. I do think a lot of it depends on what exact definition of "metal" we're working from, aka whether bands like AC/DC (as someone said), Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin are admissible. However, using the "down the Black Sabbath family tree" definition that most of us serious metal fans adhere to, I'm totally with you on those picks. The only "4th band" I could even think to those 3 is Judas Priest, but I don't think even they're quite the sell that those giants are. My instinct says that Sabbath has the best shot at overall album sales, Metallica has the best shot at ticket sales, since they're touring more often than any band this side of the Ramones, and Maiden definitely has the worldwide recognition locked down. But I don't know for sure. Let me go look and see what I see. BA: Sabbath - Megalomania Maiden - Phantom of the Opera Metallica - No Remorse

Metallica is Great, but seriously There is no band that can or has made music like IRON MAIDEN, Maiden has influenced Metallica they say that themselves they admit to it and also Maiden has never sold out and Maiden to this day is doing far more greater things for music and Metal then Metallica can ever do and to be honest at least Iron Maiden never coped songs and stole riffs that wasn’t there’s (Megadeth) Dave mustaine wrote all the classic riffs you hear from metallica, listen to the (four horseman) from Metllica and listen to the (mechanics) from Megadeth and see what song came out first and Dave Mustaine even said in a interview that "what is metallica going to do when they run out of my riffs" and we all see what happened we had black album and so on. Also all the money Metallica has made they still complained about downloading music, do you guys know what Bruce Dickinson (iron Maiden singer) said he told everyone to go and keep downloading, because real music should be heard anyway it can so keep downloading. That’s real musicians. Listen I Love Metallica but honestly, Musically and talent wise and for the fans IRON MAIDEN no one can compare from the old days until now and Maiden is still doing sold out tours and just because they are not on the radio or on video in America don’t think Maiden is nothing they have a fan base that is greater then any band out there and remember in the USA music is commercialized. So bottom line IRON MAIDEN will be the one to bring real heavy metal back.
I choose IRON MAIDEN
And honestly I pick MEGADETH any day over Metallica because of all the stealing they have done and they don’t want us to download. Get Real, Real metal heads know what I am talking about.
UP THE IRONS.

Metallica with Cliff Burton would rule... however he is gone... very sad. Ever since Metallica cut their hair they have absolutely sucked balls plus they are jerk offs in person. Iron Maiden with Bruce on vocals would put their heads on pig-sticks and skip down the street. I'd go with Iron Maiden as the true, non-sell out, metal bada$$es.
