ok here is the situation.girlfriend and i moved at the end of july. so we got a bill from the electrc and gas co of $730. that 700 is due from the old address. the bill was in her name and we just transferred services. now i was afraid that our service would get shut off. so i requested new service in my name starting the 27th., they didnt ask anything about a previous tenant at all. (they cant deny anyone service is what they told me). now im afraid that my bill is gonna be sky high. so i was thinking that maybe my g/f should ask them about payment arrangements. because she gets assistance and i don't. however, im wondering if they are gonna ask her who is living in the house(which i am) and since we have a totally diff income. she wont get that discount. they said for me to get new service i have to pay a 380 deposit because i wanted new service i didnt request to just transer in my name. should i just keep the service in my name or cancel mines and leave it in her name.

You both need to protect your credit. Talk to the utility company, they would rather make a payment plan with you than go through the trouble of no payment at all. Most companies will also do budget billing, where you pay the same amount every month and they readjust the amount either quarterly or yearly. Whatever you and your girlfriend decide to do, work something out, don't let it go. It will follow you both longer than you realize!

If she is getting assistance you would be best to keep it in her name. The Service is already established. Try paying as much as you possibly can and work out a payment plan with the Electric Company. Anytime anyone trys to dodge a Bullet, it will circle and bitecha in the A**..

Why would your service be cut off? Were you not able to pay the $700? Why was the bill so high anyway?? I think you tried to pull a fast one and "escape" that big bill. I would call asap and get it straightened out. Explain that you put it in your name to avoid a cut off and that you want to restore the billing to your girlfriend. You're gonna have to pay up.

Sounds like your question is, "What's the best way for me to get out of paying this money that I owe the electric company?"

Have your girlfriend call them and make payment arrangements. It's way too early in life to mess up both your credit scores.
