I looked under "liberation of Auschwitz... lots of stuff. This looks good... actual footage:

Liberation of Nazi Camps
Liberation of Auschwitz. View historical film footage. Related Links. Focus on Liberation ... Liberation of Auschwitz: 60th anniversary (USHMM special focus) ...www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/index.php?ModuleId=10005131 - 29k - Cached

I just went back there and looked at all the footage.. the other camps also... Seems like you could watch these and really write yourself without plagerizing the writing of an actual soldier...... You could actually imagine your self there.

Auschwitz concentration camp was the largest concentration camp and was in Poland. The name of the camp is taken from the nearest town which was Oswiecim which in German translates to Auschwitz. There are three main camps and many sub camps. Life for the prisoners was not good as the living conditions were very bad and food supplies were worse. When the Nazis moved out of the camp because the Russians were approaching, they marched some prisoners away from the camp. The Russians liberated the camp and freed over seven thousand prisoners who had not been fit to march. It was estimated that several million prisoners died at Auschwitz, either by the gas chamber or by the poor conditions in the camps.

The Americans Liberated The Auschwitz Camp. A lot of the prisoners were dieing or seriously ill, they rushed in the Red Cross and some British soldiers. They had problems trying to get them to leave because they didn't want to leave the bodies of their deceased relatives .They were buried in mass graves or cremated and their ashes were used to bulid roads round the camps .Good luck with your essay.

Good Luck with your essay.
Remember it WAS NOT the Americans that liberated the camp. It was the Russians on 27th January 1945.
And let us never forget that up to 12,000 people died per day.
God Bless Them

Oh MY Goodness girl -just put yourself in the tortured body and mind of the victims first for a little while.
Think of the humiliation, starvation.torture helplessness, the smell and unimaginable grief and lack of hope.
Then -and only then imagine walking up and seeing that what you had heard about , was a million times worse that your worst nightmare.

No, but if you want to see what it might have looked like, check out the second to the last episode of Band of Brothers. The 101st Airborne did just that.

You might also look online at the Holocaust Museum website.

The Red Army liberated that camp.
Try to search for "Освенцим" on http://militera.lib.ru
(a great source of memoirs, Russian and German).

Knowledge of Russian or German is a must.
