Funny Christmas Traditions

When decorating the tree, we put all the plain, cheap ornaments on the bottom and the nice ones near the top to keep them away from our small children. It's going to be amusing this year now that the baby's walking.

I have to remind my son about a thousand times to not eat the gingerbread house. Last year when he was 2 1/2 he positively stalked it.

The day after Thanksgiving, my neighborhood goes bonkers with lights. We take the kids for walks every evening so they can see them.

We give the family gifts on Christmas eve, and then during the night my husband and I fill the stockings with treats, including each others' when the other one's in bed. We did that before we had kids.

Hi LeeLee - you're on a roll with Christmas aren't you! I love Christmas, I'm glad someone has started talking about it! On christmas morning, we have bucks fizz and smoked salmon and some small presents. We then mooch around for the morning, listening to carols, watching christmas telly etc then all help cook lunch and set the table etc etc. We have lunch, wash and tidy everything up, take the dog for a walk and then finally at about 3pm, open all the rest of the pressies! It makes the day last so much longer and I love it! Unfortunately people who come into the family say 'we've waited all year, what's the point of waiting to open your pressies on the day'! But it isn't just the pressies, it's everything. Not opening the pressies until later gives us a sense of excited anticipation!

We exchange Christmas presents on Christmas Eve at midnight. on Christmas day we open our stockings (Filled with little presents and sweets) as well.

Nothing special on Boxing day if on New Year's Eve we have crackers and everyone finds a New Year present on their plate! It's usually something like diary/Calendar or desk block. I always get one with dogs because i love them and i make a point of getting something that will please the family. My son is NBA mad (Plays basket ball) So i order his diary from his favourite team shop.

I put up the tree at night time when everyone's off to bed. My son made a lovely star for the top of the tree so it's his job to put it up following morning and then we switch on the lights. We have breakfast listening to Christmas carols and enjoy it all. i should say that ... Christmas tree goes up November 25th at night. I do it every year because my son was born on November the 26th. My baby (26 now) Was born dead. he spent a couple of weeks in intensive care and i then put Christmas tree up because i told myself that my baby would not die if his presents were all there under the tree. it's become our tradition and 26 years later ... As i put up the tree, i re live those anxious weeks while my son feels delighted about his birthday being so unconventional (To some) Precious to us.

Oh and our dogs presents get opened first as well LOL

We only open stocking presents until after dinner.
Dinner has to have 13 different vegetables.
We also have tree gifts for the week between Christmas and New Year. Silly little gifts that cost pennies.

We also be Secret Santa and leave gifts on someone's doorstep then run away.

Bear in mind im now 26 and i'm the youngest we all get up really early 6am head to my mothers house jump on my mothers bed with them still in it shouting merry xmas and sit in our pj's then we head down stairs all singing a xmas carol (at least we try to only my sister knows the words) and my dad checks the front room to see if santa's bee we all go in open the pressies the eat a bacon roll (no idea how that came about) and spend the day in that house eating a meal that taken days to prepare and will last a little over a week in the fridge. It somthing my wife has had to get used to.

The reasons for this is my mother used to work as a nurse at 6am we did it one year and it's carried on since

I try to use Haunakah paper for my gift wrapping! And we watch Emmett Otter while decorating the tree. And put the same Christmas CDs on for the whole month of December over and over and over . . . and every year I wrap a pin from a national park or aquarium or something in the tiniest package ever for my Gram.

On Christmas Eve we have tacos for dinner. It started years ago when my parents first married and did not have money for dinner one Christmas Eve. They went and got some nasty fast food tacos and ever since then we have them for dinner. Even though all of us kids are now grown we still carry on the tradition. My Mom cried when she found out that we kids do this.

We usually don't put up decorations til a week or 2 before christmas. Then we gather with our huge family on Christmas Eve at whosevers turn it is to host's house. Then we distribute gifts when its almost midnight. We have turkey, filipino food and enjoy each others company.
