We have measureable goals that allow our 5 "teams" to win and accumulate points for rewards at the end of bi-weekly periods and 98-day periods. But our budget for rewards is stretched thin after rewarding teams after each bi-weekly period, and there is not much left to use for rewards after the 98-day period. Do you have suggestions for bi-weekly non-monetary awards that will keep a staff motivated so that they can enjoy a larger reward at the end of our 98-day period?

Discount coupons for friends and family.
If you are already discounting their food, give them coupons to pass along. Just make sure they are worded properly so you aren't eaten out of house and home.
We used to give staff a birthday coupon where they could bring up to 5 friends, order 2 apps , one entree each to $15 and dessert. We didn't include alcoholic drinks and most times the bar tabs more than made up for any food we gave away. Good will for them and comps for us.

Two ideas:

1. Sometimes praise and recognition can be great motivators. Have you tried an employee/team of the month type contest. You can pick up a plaque for little money, then update it with the winners.

2. If you have an employee menu, you could let the winners select from more expensive items that aren't normally available to employees.

Time off with pay, more influence over their own schedule. Maybe from now until December first the team that shows for all scheduled shifts can be free from working the major holiday's.

Good luck but you have been rewarding with money and that is hard to beat.

What about free meal for 2 at your restaurant? or 2-for-1 dinners? You can specify whether it be lunch or dinner and valid from Monday to Thursdays etc.

For some people, that may be a boost.
