Smaller and definitely poorer. The north and south compliment each other whether people from either side choose to believe it or not. Consider that the south produces large numbers of crops for food and textiles which the north could not due to its difference in climate. The North in turn has large scale manufacturing capabilities which make these goods usable. I have never agreed with the us versus them mentality between the north and south and I never will. The simple fact is that in order for the United States to continue to grow and thrive we need each other. "United We Stand, Divided We Fall".

Smarter! the "good old boy network" would no longer exist. Compared to the northern half of the country, the deep south is failing miserably at educating our children. And there would be a lot less road rage because all the slowpokes would be gone also. And we'd finally get rid of all of the ultraconservative right wing Bush loving wacko's
I'd go back to Montana in a heart beat if I could. I hate the mentality in the deep south. Love the beach, but that's about it.

pretty bad. no cotton for clothes. no oranges or orange juice or other citrus fruits and juices. tomatoes are a big product of the south. we wouldn't have cajun or soul food. tobacco is a huge product of the south. a lot of the domestic oil drilling we do is in the south. there are a lot of things the south provides to the country that are really good.

Ummm, like, smaller? Maybe more northerly? You could lie on the beach in Ohio or Kansas, though. Kool.

You'd just have a bunch of tight-assed northern pantywaists who'd be standing around at avant garde events drinking lattes and criticizing those neanderthals in the CSA.
Gee, that sounds just like the United States now, come to think of it.

You would be paying more for OIL!!! Since most of the oil reserves are in the gulf of Mexico. Then again Katrina would have been France's problem.

Horrible, because then there would be fewer places to get away from the Guidos.

On average colder and less diverse, and hence less capable as a union.

I don't know, but I do know that we'd be a lot happier in the south.
See what you can do about that, will you?
