my deskjet 710c when printing in black mode prints out at a very low dpi, dotty image,?

colour images are fine.. please help .. its driveing me mad.

You have multiple print quality options with inkjet printers, as well as colour or black only printing. Click file (top left), then print, then options you have probably a default setting of "draft", simply use the radio buttons to improve the quality. Draft is great for saving ink in unimportant documents eg proof reading or just printing stuff out to save a lot of writing on scrap paper.
