Sorry, but if there is an expert who can give the pattern for the crochet cap on the latest American girl doll Julie - appreciate it. I can crochet and can follow a pattern but am not very good at figuring out patterns from looking at a picture. Thanks for your help. My little one really wants me to make one for her doll.

Do you mean the cap like in this pic? http://store.americangirl.com/images/F6310_main_3.jpg

It appears to be circular motifs joined together and then finished with a scalloped edged band. If you are making this for a doll, i would used a baby sized pattern (or just a small hook to make the gauge smaller)

First find a good pattern for crocheted circular doilies that are about 3 or 4 inches in diameter and then make 5 or so of them and then join 4 onto the middle (5th one) and then join the sides of each of the 4. This should make a bowl shape, if it doesn't try it with more doilies. Then make an edge around the edge of the bowl.

I would suggest making a few scull caps to see how they are constructed.

I think you will have to buy a couple of patterns and combine them. You local yarn shop should have patterns for doll hats, and then you will have to add the scallop edge from another pattern.
