Because we have to get our useless trinkets from somewhere.

China certainly is a potential enemy, with their increased military spending, their pledge to have the worlds largest NAVY by 2020, their constant hacking of US Defense computers and their creation of space weaponry (the country that rules space militarily will be the world leader of the future), not to mention the countless other items I have neglected.

The more the people of China gather wealth and attain a laissez-faire, middle class life style, the more personal freedom they experience. This has a corrosive effect on totalitarian rule. The long term plan is bassed on the time proven fact that once the genie of freedom and self-determination is let out of the bottle, the more difficult it is to put back in.

It is hoped that once free and able to make decisions for themselves the population of China will simply obsolete the current form of government and become a democracy. We have never had a war with another democratic government in our entire history.

But first you have to recognize that it's not the U.S. that supports China. Supporting China with billings in business is not 'national policy' but the actions of millions individuals around the world.

You see there the close relationship between business profits and political ambition.

We, the people, are to blame! We buy the cheap products from China because they are cheaper and easier on our budgets.

I would suggest that we, the people, buy no "durable" goods at all from China but instead limit all purchases of good from China to things like plastic flip flops.

Our politicians base most of their decisions on money. There are many debts to be paid to campaign donors and lobbyists who gain their wealth through trade with china.

By the way, China is gobbling up natural resources faster than anyone else without the scrutiny of Gore and his alarmist followers.

It is expected that China will be a threat militarily to the US in a few years.

It is economics. China makes up 25% of the world's population. By supporting their economy now, many feel they will soon make up 25% of the world's consumers. Currently this is not the case as the low mean income and lack of any discretionary income in China has limited their role as consumers.

Easy profits for corporate greed mongers. Latest outrage: Mattel apologizes to Chinese for lead paint applied to toys shipped from China (Mattel should have checked them better). As long as this quarter';s profit is fat, China will be most favored nation.

Remember the Chinese learned from Khrushchev: "We will sell you the rope to hang yourselves".
