The rise in interest groups is caused by the decline in the political parties. If you can't get listened to you find another way of being heard. I think the money from the interest groups is what is defeating doing what is in the interest of "the people"

Political parties built around interest groups would result in many parties that would require they join together to reach majority. That would mean deals in smoke filled rooms(gee that term isn't appropriate anymore) Not much of an improvement on todays system.

we would be better off with politicians that represented the people, not the interest groups that donate the most to their campaign or send them the better gifts.
