- will the lions make the playoffs?
- will they be better than .500?
- will kitna last thru the whole season
- how long will it take to get a new coach.

i just want some objective perspective. i'm trapped in SE michigan, and i'm tired of hearing 11-5 predictions from the locals. seems to me we should worry about our autoworkers situation more than make grandiose predictions about a team whose owner is committed to losing.

lol, how's that for controversy? comments?

they will not make the playoffs
they will not be better than .500 (close...but I doubt it)
Kitna will last the whole season....he'll just get hurt every other game and have to leave early
they'll have a new coach in 2 years

if people are biased enough to predict 11-5 for the Lions, I'd hate to hear what kind of B.S. they come up with about the autoworkers' situation...

Martz will have that offense scroing points....probably just when Kitna's healthy....but that's still something.
their problem is and will be the Defense....in case that wasn't 100% obvious against the Eagles

Lions will make playoffs next year and lose in an embarrassing fashion.
Better than .500-only by sheer luck.
Kitna? No telling...injuries cannot be predicted but poor line play can so injury probability increases.
New Coach? 3 seasons. Best they've had in a long while.
11-5 is a fantasy for certain.
The Fords are not committed to losing but own one of the most profitable franchises in the NFL. They are committed to profit. Playoffs and Superbowls cost money.

Here's a couple of early season trends for Detroit.

Most passing yards (980) and only a 2-1 record and 77 points.
(lets put the into perspective Farve is (861) 3-0 and 82 pts
Romo is (822) 3-0 and 116) not totally fair (rushing and defensive tds) but in the end it's about W-L record no?

points allowed - 3 games 94. (being fair, the Eagles lit them up for 56 pts, but don't you think every O-coordinator who is playing the Lions is watching that tape RIGHT NOW).

If you push the projections from the first 3 games through the year you get 10 and 6 that's enough to get into the playoffs. which will keep the coach in his seat, and Kitna having a Pro-Bowl year.

But that's a whole lot of assumptions...

I'd give them an 8-8 or 9-7... With the Bears and Packers in their division, it may get a little ugly... But if Kitna can stay healthy, there's always a playoffs chance! (Especially in the awful NFC...)

As for a new coach... You gotta keep a coach for a few years. You can't keep getting a new coach every year or else it makes the team suffer even more. Look at the Steelers: 3 coaches in 40 years. And you wonder why they're always a contender team.

although i no longer live in michigan, i've been a fan for decades. i've seen coaches and qbs come and go. 10-6 and 11-5 predictions just makes lions gans look stupid. let's be realistic. for a new head coach you want to see improvement from the first year in the second year. last year was 3-13, so this year 6-10 would be nice. when was the last time detroit was 6-10? the third year you want to see your team hit .500, and possible get a wildcard. if your head coach can't live up to that simple process, you get a new one. i believe the same should be for the qb. too many good years and talent were wasted on harrington. don't even get me started on the parade of wasted first rounder qbs before harrington. win or lose, they are still our lions.

I am a Lions fan but I have to comment. I SO totally agree with you! Not the football stuff though that is right on, but the fact that so few care so little about the autoworkers. People across the country just don't have a clue how this WILL trickle down and affect them! Buy American! Go Lions!
