A ski resort is installing tows on its new ski runs. One hill has a vertical height of 500.0 metes and it is inlcined at 42 degrees.
Determine the approxmate length of the t-bar cable if it goes to the top of the hill and returns.

I am having trouble getting a diagram ,and having trouble solving this please help!!!

cable length = 500/sin(42) = 747.24 feet one way.
Total length = 2(747.34 = 1494.48 feet

Draw a right triangle. the 500 m is the VERTICAl segment, label it. Opposite this is the 42 degree angle, and you want the length of the hypotenuse, H.

Well, 500/h = sin(42), so
h = 500/sin(42).

Take that to be the ski hill; Vertical height is AB and is 500 meters
Angle BCA is 42 degrees

We need to find AC

sin(42) = AB / AC = 500 / AC

AC = 500 / sin(42)

Now the cable has to go from A to C and back to A

so the cable length is 2 * AC or 1000 / sin(42)

Brian, draw a right triangle, with the vertical leg measuring 500m, and the angle opposite that leg measuring 42 degrees. so, you need to know the length of the hypotenuse, right? remember, sin(angle)=(opposit side)/(hypotenuse), so

sin(42) = (500m)/(x)

or

x = 500/(sin(42))

gives the length of the hypotenuse in meters. remember! you need to multiply that length by two, because the T-cable goes up AND down the hill.

length is the opposite side of a rectangular triangle with hypothenuse equal to one length of the cable L

we can write L sin42 = 500

L =500/sin 42=500/0.0669=747.3 m

and you must use this twice so answer 2*747.3= 1494.6m
