I would pick Romney over any of the Democrat contenders for President, and while I believe that Mormons are Christians (it appears that there are some people here at Yahoo!Answers that think they understand more about Mormons than they really do), I wasn't aware that our country held any elections for Christian Leader. Romney is not trying to be Pope, Prophet, Reverend, or Pastor, so anointing him as our new Christian Leader does not apply.

Mitt Romney is not a "Christian Leader".
As a Mormon, Romney is definitely a "Christian"
(despite some silly claims to the contrary, from so-called Christian factions that want to exclude other factions.)
However, Romney's religious beliefs do NOT make him some sort of "Christian Leader". (Neither do those of Guiliani, Clinton, Edwards, and others who profess some sort of "Christian" faith but do not therefore claim to have some sort of religious authority -- any more than do Lieberman or Obama.)
In my opinion, anyone who claims to be a "Religious Leader" thereby disqualifies himself from being considered as President.
Likewise, anyone who tries to characterize a Presidential candidate by his religion is sneakily trying to use religion to corrupt our political system by introducing religion into politics. Unless a candidate tries to use his religion to get votes (e.g. Fallwell, Jackson, Sharpton), it should never be used to deny votes.
The US Constitution bans an "religious test" for office, and that works both ways!

I will not be voting for Mitt Romney.
Members of the LDS Church are christian, they teach the eternal divinity of Christ, Warren Jeffs is not Mormon, religion must be a part of politics because it is a part of our life...it affects how one leads the country, and the Book of Revelation was refering to itself (it was, after all written before most of the rest of the New Testament and the same phrase appears in Deuteronomy...). The Book of Mormon isn't adding to the Bible, anyhow. It is adding to the cannon of scripture.
Anyway...I hope Obama makes it although that's not very likely it seems. He is the one candidate who would bring the oh-so-desperately needed change to this country. He isn't perfect but he's better than the rest of the candidates...

The Holy Bible tells us in very clear words that the Bible is complete, and that anyone who adds so much as a word to it is in very serious trouble. Go ahead, read Revelations, specifically the last verses. It can't possibly be any clearer. Yet the Book of Mormon comes along and claims to be an additional Testament. I have nothing against Mormons, they are fine people, but they are following a seriously mistaken path and they will be in trouble for it. Revelations makes that clear beyond any question whatsoever. So Mr. Romney could not accurately be considered a Christian. And whatever philosophy and talents he has need to be considered in light of the fact that he is not following the Holy Bible. Sorry, but thats how it is.

Perhaps, he's certainly qualified to be our President. Being someone's Christian leader is a personal decision of the individual though being the country's leader for all is a possibility.

Stop putting religion and politics together! Romney's religious beliefs are not a part of this equation. The question is, can he be an effective President? I think it's likely he can. And I don't care what his religious preferences are.

Mitt Romney is probably a very good man and very dedicated to what he believes. However, I sure hope he isn't our new "Christian Leader and President" because we have had enough of that kind of leadership inflicted on us, under George W. Bush, and I honestly don't think the country can stand 4 or 8 more years of it.

Last time I checked the majority of mainstream denominations looked at Mormonism as a cult. Also, what are his feeling on Warren Jeffs? If he is convicted, will he be the first pardon given by a newly elected Romney? Can't have a fellow Mormon in jail for Morman (although not mainstream mormonism) practices now can we?
Sounds like "Mr. Family Values" Newt Gingrich is ramping up a run for office. Wonder if he is going for a new trophy wife, as the the last one is a little long in the tooth, so this would make what, wife four or five for him.....so much for 'his' family values. Just dictate 'ours'....

Guys! Give old Romney a break. Mormons are Christians. I know a ton of them and they tend to be really good conservatives. Just look at Utah's voting record. I think Romney would be good, he's running for POTUS not President of the church. I do think Fred Thompson would be better though.
