I hope someone can tell me why people continue to buy expensive products that contain ingredients that pollute their own air? Room sprays contain known carcinogens but they are flying off the shelves. Most cleaning products contain triclosan which, when mixed with chloronated water, gives off a toxin and known carcinogenic gas (chloroform) but people keep buying the stuff. Why is that? Natural products are cheaper, don't bother allergies, don't contribute to cancer risks and work just as well.

Can anyone tell me why people continue to pay for products that increase their risk of cancer and other bodily harms?

Because the general population is not very smart, doesn't care, has no clue, and, unfortunately, every single stereotype about people who shop at Wal-Mart is true.
The general public buys what is in front of them without reading labels. (This is why people get their important information about recalls and product problems from the evening news.) They buy what is familiar, is the name of the products their parents used, looks good, the price is cheap, the toddler is howling and the baby is crying and the 5 year old is tearing apart the magazines on the rack, gotta buy it and get out of the store.
They don't want to hear it, and they don't want to hear it from you or me.
That's why.

People will always opt for an easy way out for their problems. It's accessible, cheap and "smells nice".

Personally, there's nothing quite like opening the window to let in some fresh air.
