Then taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he said the blessing over them, broke them, and gave them to the disciples to set before the crowd. (Luke 9:16)

Sacramentals are sacred signs that help us live holy lives although they do not produce sanctifying grace.

Sacramentals include blessings of persons, meals, objects (including water), and places.

The priest blesses the congregation during Mass.

Christians bless their meals. "Bless us O Lord and these thy gifts, ..."

Priests bless water, animals, ships, homes, and even automobiles. "God bless this home and all those who enter here."

The Catholic church gets their water from the Archdiocese in Seattle, that is where the water is blessed and then given out to all of the Catholic Churches in WA.

Holy water is taken from natural under ground springs which flow to the surface of the ground. Pagans have been getting their holy water from the same source for centuries before christianity.

Its not from a religious well or anything!!

Its just regular water, that has been blessed, making it 'holy'

or, taken from a spring at a site believed to have religious conatations...Though this has not been blessed, but more is found in a place such as lourdes, where the virgin was said to have appeared...

I thought holy water was just water blessed by a priest, but I tasted it once and it was oily.

I always wondered this myself and asked a catholic friend who works at her church. She said it comes from the tap, and basically the priest just blesses it. :S

The priest adds a small amount of salt and blesses it. That's all there is to it.

It is then a sacramental- a blessed item that helps remind us of our call to holiness.

Anywhere, any old tap will do. But then it gets blessed and it becomes holy water.
