It will show in your account at the end of the day that you pay the cheque in. However it will not normally be in your available balance for 5 days after that.

Saying that, I paid a cheque in last week, and it was available after 3 days, although it came from another bank so that may be the reason for the quick processing.

Natwest account information -
The date the credit appears on your account will be known as transaction day (T)
T+2 the value of the cheque will be taken into account on your balance
T+4 You can withdraw funds from this day, however be aware that the cheque could still be returned unpaid until T+6

It depends on the bank it's clearing from - for instance NatWest to Natwest cheques have been known to become available the same day in my experience (though not always). I wouldn't hold out too much hope though, I'm afraid.

I had this happen to me twice.

My boss pays me by cheque - yes he's very very old fashioned!- and i opened a new natwest account so i did not have all my wages eaten by my hsbc overdraft, anyway it took 8 days to clear and when i went in to ask about it all i was told it can take up to ten days to clear!

I've stuck to putting my cheques in hsbc now, they clear within 3 days!

Nat West are not particularly fast at clearing cheques. I think you are going to have to wait.
