It's difficult (actually, impossible) to imagine a technologicaly advanced civilization existing without science. And science is based on mathematics.
Your other question about why mathematics is 'universal' when there are so many languages kinda touches on this. If the same physical laws apply to two people who don't share a common language, then they will still have the same mathematical models of those physical laws. It doesn't matter if you say 'dos', 'zwei' or two, it still describes the number of elements in the set { a b }.

We don't really have to discover things like sun. moon and earth! Mathematics is something like that. It is there for you to see and feel. Other civilizations where ever they are definately know about mathematics. It may not be the way we know it they may have a different counting system but surely they do have it!

No way man. Mathematics is the language of nature. U cant possibly technologically advance yourself if u dont know mathematics. Sure your mathematics can be different from ours that is your way of understanding it may be different but you got to know.

Mathematics isn't "discovered". Comprehending that there was one sabre-toothed cat in front of you, and now there is one more, is mathematics. It would just go on from there. I'd say mathematics can't be avoided.
