I would like to know how can you tell if the springs on your car is bad and also does all cars have a uniform height (in other words are all cars evenly balanced in terms of the front & rear suspension height).

But what about if the car starts to look low, that could not be shocks. Further more the ride is only bad on rough/bumpy surfaces not on smooth roads.

Thanks al_sheda, but I did change the shocks and the problem is still there. I also did several checks on the front end and everything is okay. I went to this one guy and he diagnose the problem to be a spring. He even measured the height of the front and back and concluded that the lower from was as a result of the coil springs losing there tension.

I am thinking about buying the springs this weekend, but I need to be sure that it is really the springs and nothing else, because that would mean money down the drain.

1. The coil springs hardly go bad. They either break or the rubbers on the top and bottom get broken or splayed out. In the latter case you simply change the rubbers. If a spring droops a little bit it can be adjusted by using a spacer to get an even height on all 4 wheels.

2. The suspension geometry differs from car to car. All have a balance, with heights varying from one make to another and the set up as per the performance required from the car.

3. According to your description, the shocks seem to be worn out and would need replacement. All the symptoms point in this direction. With new shocks, your height may even come up very slightly and your complaint about driving over uneven/rough roads will also be rectified.
