I have been working in the store for almost 2 years, longer then all the full time workers there. When I first started out I was only making $8.00 and at the time I was 16. I busted my *** for this lady, I always close, I always come in when someone calls out, I clean, I smile at the rotten lil puke kids, I was always on time. never called out, come in when I was SICK!

I was nice, and never started a fight. But last night I was going through the draw and found out how much money everyone else was making. I was making only $8.16 while the other part time worker(who just quit!) was making $10.00 ALSO one full timer is making $12.50 while another is making $13.00 AN HOUR!!!!

I can't believe it! I had to take up another job to make ends meet now that I live on my own and on top of that i'm a full time student. AND SHE KNOWS THIS!!!!! But has begged me to quit my other job so that I can come back and be treated like ****.

She has offered me $10.00 an hour now to be part time....

But I wouldnt have taken the $10.00 if I had known they all made more money then me!

Now I'm just to embarssed to even show my face there! they all knew I was getting payed less!!!!!!!

Should I just quit or call HR and start airing dirty laundry?.

Yours probably right about looking in the draw, but I wasn’t looking at pay stubs. they were raise papers that she often leaves out in the open and for the first time I deceived to look at them.

The first situation that will arise is how did you find out every one else is making more than you? Me personally I would stay shut, not say a word. Start looking for another job. Explain the situation to my potential employer. Then simply when I know that I will starting another job, approach the HR department (with confidence because they are no longer needed) and explain to them that I will be leaving. No 2 weeks notice because I need the money. They might then try to throw you an extra dollar or 2 but you will gladly turn it down because you have another job lined up. I also work and go to school full time so I know how you feel. Just think first before you make any drastic desicions.

What she's doing might be pretty lame, but it's not illegal. You have two choices -- deal with it, either through her or throught the company's HR, and stay at that job; or quit and find someplace better. It's up to you.

On another note, I fully congratulate you for staying in school full-time, and for trying to help this woman and quitting your other job, etc., for her. I'm glad that you will soon have a degree and not have to work this crappy job. Just keep your eye on the light at the end of the tunnel.

Start looking for work somewhere else and resign. That's not right! What she is doing is illegal BUT that sure does not make it right since you are the one always available and do the grunt work. Don't call HR or you will get in trouble because you should not be looking at other peoples check stubs.

Basically, I see two choices. Renegotiate your wages or quit an find another job. It is obvious that the boss either figures you are not worth more money or that you will work for less. Being part time does not mean you are worth less money. In fact, since they are not giving you benefits, they should at least pay you the same rate as others who have been there less time.

You should not quit. Perhaps there is a company policy that full time employees should be paid more money.

You are going back with a fairly substantial pay raise.of almost 20%. The inequity has been resolved although not in the way that it should have been resolved. You have nothing to be ashamed about.

If you are still dissatisfied obtain another job before you leave, not afterward.

You call HR and you are the one that will be in trouble.
You were past out of line looking at other people's checks.
There are only 3 people in a business would have access to payroll info and you aren't one of them.

You should have asked for a raise before you went snooping if you thought you were worth it- that is how your co-workers ended up making more than you.
You have learned an important lesson-
Don't wait for the employer to pay you what you are worth- ask for it

this happen at a lot of places, even been in the same situation,
maybe you haven't asked for raises at the right times(like when they really need help and are busy),if you don't ask for raises companies will not hand them out,and assume you are happy with what your making

most places tell people not to discuss salary's b/c of this, and fire people over it

good luck

It's because you're black.

Kidding.

That sounds like a bunch of crap to me. I would be pissed as well. Definitely ask for a raise. Don't let them know you know how much everyone else is getting paid though.

I would have fired you on the spot if I found out.

With your attitude you seem to think you are ENTITLED to something. So, my question to you is what do you have to offer that makes you entitled to a job, pay or anything else?
