Plan for induction, but exhaust every natural means possible first. Accupuncture, nipple stimulation, breaking your water, and then cervidel if nothing else works. DONT use pitocins, or any other medication that will intensify your contractions.
Cervidel actually opens your cervix, which alone is enough to induce labor, but it does not cause intense non-ending contractions, they simply take it back out and its over.
I was in labor for 43 1/2 hours, they had to use cervidel near the end because I wasnt dilating. The biggest thing is it doesnt cause fetal distress.
C-sections can result in death, for your and or the baby. 1 in 2000 do. If you can avoid it, do so at all costs.

That's a tough one! My friend an I were pregnant the first time together and got one of each. I got induced... it sucked, but c-sections are no great holiday's either.
If I had to give an opinion is that babies were meant to come out the bottom, so would feel that if you can make it come out that way it's probably better. It's a hard labour for inductions but at least the recovery should be pretty "normal", where as you also have healing of a wound to contend with if you have a C.
When I say "hard labour" my induction was such that I had hard contractions that were only 90 seconds apart for nearly 24 hours by the time my water broke, and I was then only 2 cms dialated, so it was very tiring and uncomfortable. But my friend had an infection at her inceision and was not really up and moving too much for a good month after.

I was induced 2 out of 3 times & everything went fine. My first son was born in about 6 or 7 hours & the second took about 12 hours. I wouldn't have wanted a section by choice - too much time to heal!

I've had 2 c-sections & it wasn't a big deal at all. I felt like my old self in about a week. The healing time is NOT a major issue. The after pain is pretty bad for about the first 24 hours afterward. Which I assume is about the same for a vaginal birth. If you decide to have a section, don't be scared. I wouldn't do it any other way.

C-section is going to be a much longer healing process than vaginal birth. I would try being induced first, though it can be more intense to go through an induced birth. Looking at it long-term wise it seems better to do vaginal, just because of the healing time AFTER the fact.
Good luck and congratulations!

from experience, I went into labor naturally with my first...but I was not dialating so they induced me with pitocin....I still went through 14 hours of labor to end up getting a c-section.
I cannot have natural delivery due to a small pelvis...everyones body is different...induction does not always mean no c-section willl be needed...the same thing happened to my sister in law and she had 2 previous natural births..
my best advice is to pray about it and God will give you direction...

Of course the option that doesn't involve surgery would be safest. Just get induced.. if there is any reason that she can't be delivered vaginally, they will go ahead and do a C-section, but I would try naturally first.

Is your Dr letting you decide? That's unusual. Have you had a c-section before? If you have had a c-section before there are risks with a VBAC so discuss with your Dr. If not, I would try to have the baby rather than just having a c-section without trying. This is major surgery!
good luck!

Try to be induced and if that does not work then you can fall back on the C section
