If you had sent birthday and Christmas cards with money in for over 17 years to a relative and you don't have a thank you off them, would you continue to send them anything?

Janicajayne, money had become tight for us as a family recently.I've been ill with cancer and my husband had to take time off work to nurse me.He lost out on having only half pay in that time.I give because I feel obliged to as they are my husbands family. They have no manners, never say thank you.Other relatives in the family give the kids nothing I have found out recently. As the kids are a lot older, I'd like to stop sending them money.

Also, I don't have anything off them, as I requested they stop buying for me about 10 years ago.

It is just out of pure politeness and courtesy that if you receive a card for an occasion, whether it contains money or not, to acknowledge to the sender that you did receive it.

I would be especially concerned if I sent a card with money and I didn't receive a call to let me know that it was received. It could be possible that the card and money feel into the hands of someone other than the person it was intended for.

Personally I wouldnt send them anything any more for the simple fact that the money isnt what the issue really is here but its the simple fact that all they have do is pick up the phone and just say thanks.....and they choose not to that is what makes it so bad.....

The greeting cards and the money sent are token of my love and affection for them. I will not expect anything, even a gesture .of thanks from them. I feel that I have done what was proper on my part and it is now up to them to decide for themselves.Sending greetings are not to be equated with commercial dealings where you expect a return.

You've done it for 17 years, why stop now?

Are you doing it to be recognized, or to give them a gift. If you expect something in return, then you're not giving for the right reasons.
